Rock of Cashel, Cashel (TS)
The Rock of Cashel was the palace of the King of Munster (one of the four provinces of Ireland) from the 5th century. It was handed over to the church in 1101 and became a religious centre until it was taken over by Oliver Cromwell's army in 1647.
The buildings are perched on a limestone hill within a short walking distance from the centre of Cashel. They site includes a 12th century round tower, a high cross, a 13th century Gothic cathedral, a Romanesque Chapel, and a 15th century castle.
