Ireland - the world's best country to live in?
Where will be the best place to live in 2005? According
to a global quality of life index in "The World in 2005" published
by Britain's "The Economist" newspaper the answer is Ireland.
Their assessment is based on research conducted by The Economist
Intelligence Unit covering some 111 countries.
The criteria used covers both economic and life-satisfaction components
- income, health, freedom, unemployment, family life, climate, political
stability, security, gender equality, and family and community life.

Among other rankings, the US is ranked at # 13 with a score of 7.62,
Japan # 17 scoring 7.39, France # 25 scoring 7.08, Britain 29
scoring 6.92 and China # 60 scoring 6.08.
They forecast a GDP growth for Ireland of 4.9% during 2005, with
inflation running at 2.2%. National GDP $200 bn. ($48,250
per head).
